NC EV Infrastructure

I had my EV life pretty figured out in Chicago. It was a little complicated without home charging but I had a routine. When looking at moving to North Carolina for a new job opportunity, EV charging access was top of mind. I have been incredibly impressed with the EV infrastructure in place in North Carolina.

I have been amazed since my first day in NC when I made the fun trip to the DMV. There was an EV charger in the parking lot across from the DMV! I needed to charge since I had a full day of moving errands. This charger was a huge help in keeping my day moving.

The DMV was so efficient, I wasn’t charging for very long but it was enough to get me around and get my errands done. To my surprise again, while at a shopping center just a couple minutes from our new home, there was DC fast charger.

Chargers are going in around the state thanks to a state initiative. If you want to see a state that is not just talking the talk but walking to walk, look at NC’s EV infrastructure as a model.

We selected where we are living because the complex has a level 2 charger (and for other reasons but it was our first choice because of the charger).

I don’t drive very far for work but we go on adventures with our 2 dogs and only have to charge once per week. I generally charge the car overnight. I can check on the charge status through both my Ford Pass app and the ChargePoint app.

Another credit to the state EV programs, my charging has been free! I have paid $0 to charge my vehicle since becoming a permanent resident. I still need the ChargePoint app and an account to initiate charging but I am not charged for charging up my car.

This ChargePoint charger can charge 2 cars at once and provides a consistent 7 kW charge. I generally leave a note in my windshield while my car is charging with my phone number so if another EVer is in dire need of charging, they can call or message me and I can run over and move my car.

With the excellent EV infrastructure in the state, I really don’t think about charging my car at all!
